Frequently asked questions.

General

What is Not Today Studios?

Not Today Studios is an independent creative studio building original projects across publishing, technology, games, and film & TV. We focus on helping creatives turn ideas into finished work — sustainably, realistically, and without giving up ownership — one hour a day.

What does “One Hour a Day” mean?

It’s our core philosophy. We believe meaningful creative progress doesn’t require burnout or endless free time. All our guides, tools, and projects are designed to support steady progress in small, achievable daily sessions.

Is Not Today Studios a publisher, a tech company, or a studio?

All three. We publish original creative guides, build creator-focused software tools, develop small games, and explore original screen projects. Everything sits under one studio with a shared philosophy and long-term IP focus.

Who runs Not Today Studios?

Not Today Studios is founded and run by James Stott, a UK-based creative technologist and QA lead. The studio is currently independent and self-funded, with collaborators and contributors involved across different projects.

Guides & E-Books

What kind of guides do you publish?

We publish practical, beginner-friendly guides for writers, filmmakers, artists, and game developers. Each guide is structured to help you move from idea to completion, with clear explanations, examples, and one-hour challenges.

Who are the guides for?

Our guides are designed for new and developing creatives, as well as experienced creators who want structure, clarity, and momentum. No prior qualifications or industry access are required.

What formats are the guides available in?

Currently, guides are delivered as high-quality PDF downloads. ePub editions for platforms such as Kindle and Apple Books are planned.

Where can I buy your guides?

Guides can be purchased directly from the Not Today Studios store. Selected titles will also be available on external platforms in the future.

Do the guides follow a specific structure?

Yes. Each guide is built around the “One Hour a Day” principle and is designed to be worked through in manageable sessions, rather than overwhelming chapters or theory-heavy content.

Not yet. SOMEONE is in early development. Details will be shared publicly as the platform progresses.

Games

What kind of games does Not Today Studios make?

We develop small, focused games designed to be finished, replayable, and respectful of the player’s time. We prioritise clarity and simplicity over live-service models or aggressive monetisation.

What games are currently available?

Our first release, Howzat! Dice Cricket!, is available now on mobile platforms. Strike! Dice Baseball! is currently in development.

Film & TV

Do you produce films or TV shows?

Not at this stage. Our Film & TV division is currently in an exploration and development phase.

What is your involvement in film projects?

We aim to support selected independent screen projects at an early stage, primarily through modest backing, development support, or producer-style involvement rather than full production services.

Can I pitch a film or TV project to you?

You’re welcome to get in touch, but please note that we are selective and currently operate at a small scale. We prioritise strong writing, realistic scope, and creator-owned projects.

Store & Support

Do you offer refunds?

Due to the nature of digital downloads, refunds are not offered once files have been delivered. If you experience any issues with a purchase, please contact us and we’ll do our best to help.

How can I support Not Today Studios?

You can support the studio by purchasing a guide, sharing the site, or backing us via the Support the Studio page. All support helps fund development time, tools, and future releases.

Can I submit my own guide or project to be published?

Not currently. We plan to open submissions in the future, once the studio and publishing pipeline are more established.
